Richmond, renowned for its vibrant community engagement, is set to bloom with a unique floral spectacle next month, orchestrated by none other than Jane Lee, affectionately known as the city’s “Flower Lady.”
Lee, celebrated for her transformative community workshops that harness the power of flowers, unveils her latest endeavor: a captivating flower exhibition titled “Blossom of Hope.” Scheduled for August 24-25 at the Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church on 5771 Granville Ave., the event aims to spread positivity and unity through artful floral displays.
Inspired by timeless narratives from iconic Bible stories like Noah’s Ark to profound quotes by luminaries such as Princess Diana, Saint Teresa, and Steve Jobs, the exhibition promises a feast for the senses and the soul.
“The upcoming flower exhibition is a wonderful platform for fostering community spirit through artistic expression,” remarked Lee, underscoring her commitment to inclusivity and creativity.
Integral to the event are contributions from local non-profits and charities, including Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives’ caregiver hub, showcasing their altruistic work through bespoke floral arrangements. Emphasizing inclusivity, Lee extends the spotlight to community members of all ages, including seniors from daycares and assisted living homes, whose creations will grace the exhibition halls.
“In our exhibition, we prioritize community involvement over professional prowess, inviting even the most modest contributors to share in this traditionally elite art form,” Lee affirmed. “It’s about nurturing encouragement and positivity, qualities we all seek.”
The driving force behind this initiative is Ave Maria Garden, a non-profit Lee established in 2024. Named after a similar venture she founded in Hong Kong in 2017, Ave Maria Garden initially flourished through community-focused workshops before Lee relocated to Canada in 2019. Since then, Lee has continued to cultivate community spirit with initiatives like flower arrangement workshops for Richmond seniors and special events like Valentine’s Day flower distributions and a Canada Day celebration.
Motivated by the profound impact of community support, Lee formally established Ave Maria Garden as a Canadian non-profit earlier this year, aiming to empower and uplift through floral artistry. “Our mission is rooted in service and gratitude, proving that through dedication, anything is achievable,” Lee asserted.
Reflecting on the transformative power of their workshops, Lee expressed pride in supporting individuals facing mental health challenges, emphasizing the joy found in their participation.
As preparations for the “Blossom of Hope” exhibition gather momentum, Lee looks forward to welcoming the Richmond community and beyond to experience the beauty and unity that blooms from their shared creativity.
For those eager to partake in this uplifting celebration of art and community, the “Blossom of Hope” exhibition promises an inspiring journey into the heart of Richmond’s vibrant spirit.
