The area in Seraulim had long been plagued by recurring instances of garbage dumping, with items ranging from diapers to beer bottles frequently littering the roadside. Frustrated by continuous clean-up efforts, Vales decided to take matters into his own hands in August 2022 by initiating a green transformation through the introduction of shrubbery. His proactive approach has garnered widespread acclaim from the community, recognizing his efforts in addressing the persistent garbage issue.

Vales’ commitment to beautifying the once-dilapidated roadside locale has not only revitalized the environment but also positioned him as a community leader dedicated to enhancing local living conditions.

In a conversation with reporters, Vales highlighted how the area, now adorned with flowering plants, has become a popular spot for selfies and video shoots. What was previously a dumping ground for refuse has been transformed into an inviting and visually appealing destination.

“After returning to my hometown from Dubai following retirement, I noticed that despite the widening of the road, it had become a dumping ground due to debris and overgrown bushes,” Vales remarked. “I took it upon myself to clean up the area, but unfortunately, people continued to discard waste here,” he added.

Supported by his wife, Vales embarked on planting flowering species in the area. Initially, they manually watered the plants using buckets, later arranging for water tankers to streamline the process. Over time, they adopted innovative measures, including utilizing water from a nearby well, with assistance from a friend who donated irrigation pipes for drip irrigation.

“We’ve planted approximately 234 flowering plants along the roadside, effectively converting what was once a dumping site into a scenic attraction,” Vales proudly stated.

Savio Vales’ initiative serves as a shining example of how individual action can bring about substantial community and environmental benefits, turning a neglected corner of Seraulim into a blossoming oasis for all to enjoy.
