Agrobiomics, a pioneering Danish agtech firm focused on sustainable agricultural solutions, has secured €4 million in funding from NOON Ventures to expedite the market launch of their innovative abiotic stress protectant, Fortify. This funding aims to bolster agricultural resilience against climate challenges, potentially reducing global CO2 emissions by over 100 million tons annually and preventing yield losses valued at up to €90 billion.
Established in 2022 with a mission to fortify agriculture against climate disruptions, Agrobiomics has engineered Fortify, a biological solution proven to bolster plant resilience amidst environmental stresses such as drought and salinity. Supported by €1.4 million from the BioInnovation Institute, their technology has demonstrated significant efficacy in enhancing sustainable agriculture practices worldwide. Agrobiomics plans to expand its trials across diverse crops including soy, corn, and tomatoes, spanning key regions in Europe, North and South America, Asia, and Africa.
CEO Ejner Bech Jensen expressed confidence in their progress, stating, “Over the past two years, our dedicated team has built Agrobiomics from the ground up, validated our intellectual property through rigorous field testing, and forged impactful partnerships. With critical support from BII, backed by the Novo Foundation, we are poised to help farmers confront challenges such as drought and salinity, potentially reclaiming degraded soil and achieving substantial CO2 reductions.”
Amidst mounting concerns over global food security exacerbated by climate shifts and geopolitical tensions, Agrobiomics’ bio-based approach leverages millions of years of natural evolution. Their technology offers a distinct advantage with minimal application per hectare, enabling sustainable, reliable, and profitable food production.
Fortify, Agrobiomics’ flagship product, has demonstrated promising results across various crops, significantly boosting yields and enhancing plant resilience under adverse conditions. Field trials for soy and corn have shown particularly encouraging data. The technology’s seamless integration into existing agricultural practices positions it as a versatile ‘plug-and-play’ solution for farmers, with Fortify poised to capture a market potential exceeding $2 billion.
NOON Ventures Partner Theis Malmborg underscored the strategic importance of Agrobiomics’ innovation in addressing the agricultural sector’s critical challenges. “As the industry grapples with the escalating impacts of climate-induced stresses on natural systems, Agrobiomics stands out as a pivotal player in advancing climate-resilient agricultural systems. We are proud to support their team and eagerly anticipate collaborating to accelerate the technology’s development and market entry.”
Agrobiomics’ commitment to pioneering biological solutions for both abiotic and biotic stresses reflects their ambition to replace conventional pesticides with sustainable alternatives. Their efforts not only promise to mitigate agricultural vulnerabilities but also contribute to a more resilient and sustainable global food supply chain.
