Van Nuys, California – SoCal Flower & Supply, a wholesale flower warehouse nestled near Van Nuys Airport, is buzzing with activity as Mother’s Day approaches. Despite lacking the quaint charm of a boutique florist, the vast expanse of this warehouse exudes an enchanting aroma, enticing customers with its extensive array of floral offerings.
Formerly known as SoCal Wholesale Flowers & Supplies, the establishment is experiencing unprecedented demand this Mother’s Day weekend, catering to both retail florists and the general public alike. On Friday, May 10, coinciding with Mexico’s official Mother’s Day celebration – Dia de Las Madres – SoCal Flower & Supply saw a steady stream of patrons. Many of them are planning return visits to the industrial area on Cabrito Road to procure fresh blooms for Mother’s Day on May 12, traditionally observed in the United States on the second Sunday of May.
Among the throngs of customers were Genaro and Brit Valencia, a couple from Mission Hills in the San Fernando Valley. Amidst the myriad options of pink, orange, green, and even black blooms, they selected two dozen dark red roses. “I chose red because my mom likes red, and so does hers,” remarked Genaro, referring to his mother-in-law.
Expressing their intent to return for additional flowers on May 12, Brit Valencia, a repeat customer, extolled the affordability of SoCal Flower & Supply, noting that prices are “cheaper here than on the streets.”
Owner Francisco Rodriguez revealed that the family-owned floral business receives daily deliveries ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 flowers. With nine years of operation under its belt, Rodriguez estimated the combined value of flowers and supplies at $200,000.
