CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Over 50 businesses in Downtown Charlottesville are participating in the Downtown in Bloom Celebration, an event organized by Friends of Charlottesville Downtown. This competition aims to enhance the beauty of the area and foster a sense of community among residents, workers, and visitors to the Downtown Mall.
The initiative sees businesses displaying flower boxes outside their establishments, contributing to the vibrant and colorful atmosphere of the downtown area. Ivy Nate, the design director of 600 W Main, shared her personal connection to the event. “I was gifted flowers from my friends a while ago and they were dying. I wasn’t ready for them to go, so I threw them in a bucket of ice, took them out, and happened to have a beautiful sculpture,” she said.
The winner of the competition will receive a $1,000 prize and an advertisement in C-VILLE Weekly. The announcement of the winner is set for June.
