Roz Wright, a dedicated member of the Winchester Flower Club for over two decades, is on a mission to cultivate a deeper appreciation for flower arranging among locals. Beginning this August, she will host complimentary sessions at The Bell Inn in St Cross, aiming to draw in a broader audience to the joys and therapeutic benefits of this timeless craft.

Wright, a resident of Sleepers Delle Gardens, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing inclusivity: “The sessions will be open to everyone and completely free of charge. The Bell Inn has generously offered us the use of one of their rooms, with the option to spill over into their garden if needed.”

Her motivation stems from a desire to rekindle community engagement post-pandemic: “I want to encourage people to step out of their homes. There’s still some hesitancy lingering from the pandemic, but flower arranging is not only visually appealing; it’s also a calming activity that allows people to momentarily escape their worries.”

Highlighting the therapeutic benefits of plants, Wright noted, “Flowers offer a range of advantages, from their pleasant fragrances to the calming effects of incense.”

Looking ahead, the 76-year-old visionary plans to expand her offerings with paid classes focused on ‘mindful flower arranging’. This initiative aims to further delve into the meditative aspects of the art form, catering to individuals seeking a deeper, more contemplative experience.

As Wright prepares to launch these sessions, her passion for sharing the beauty of floral design promises to enrich the community spirit of Winchester, one flower arrangement at a time.
