Bengaluru is gearing up for a spectacular Independence Day flower show at Lalbagh, dedicated to commemorating the life and contributions of Dr. BR Ambedkar, the visionary behind India’s Constitution. Scheduled from August 8 to 19, the event promises a vibrant display of floral artistry and creativity.
G Kusuma, Deputy Director of Horticulture at Lalbagh Gardens, expressed, “Preparations are in full swing, with pathways adorned by blooming flowers and creatively arranged dwarf plants.” This annual extravaganza, traditionally held to mark both Republic Day and Independence Day, is set to captivate visitors with its diverse themes and meticulous presentations.
Tickets for adults will be priced at Rs 80, while schoolchildren will enjoy free entry. Kusuma confirmed that the seedlings are already planted, ensuring a breathtaking spectacle as the flowers reach full bloom by August 8. This year, the theme will honor Dr. Ambedkar’s inspiring life, following past themes that celebrated luminaries like Basavanna and Puneeth Rajkumar.
The floral exhibits will feature symbolic representations such as statues of Dr. Ambedkar, depictions of the Constitution, and key milestones from his remarkable journey. Highlighting the event will be elaborate flower arrangements, including pyramids and vibrant annual blooms courtesy of the Indo-American Hybrid Seeds Company. To maintain a pleasant ambiance, water foggers will be employed in the Glass House, ensuring optimal conditions for the blossoming flora.
Special attractions will be spread across Lalbagh, including the Glass House, Bandstand, Lalbagh Rock, Lake Erie, Topiary Garden, and Bonsai Garden. Enthusiasts can anticipate a dazzling array of flora, ranging from exotic anthuriums and orchids to local favorites like roses and gerberas. The exhibition will also showcase international varieties, alongside potted bougainvilleas, ensuring a rich tapestry of colors and fragrances.
As Bengaluru prepares to host this prestigious event, the Lalbagh Flower Show stands poised to celebrate Dr. Ambedkar’s enduring legacy through nature’s most beautiful creations.
