The Travellers’ Choice Awards by Tripadvisor represent the highest recognition bestowed upon destinations by the world’s largest travel review platform. Hamilton Mayor Paula Southgate expressed her delight at the Gardens’ continued international acclaim, stating, “It’s no surprise – all Hamiltonians know how amazing our gardens are. Once the new visitor centre opens, it will be even better.”
The success of Hamilton Gardens is credited to the visionary leadership of Dr. Peter Sergel and the dedicated team behind its creation. Mayor Southgate highlighted their passion and expertise, emphasizing the Gardens’ nearly 3000 5-star reviews on Tripadvisor as a testament to their commitment to excellence.
Reflecting on her personal connection to the Gardens, Mayor Southgate reminisced, “I remember my children loved exploring all the bamboo nooks and crannies in the Chinese garden. My absolute favourite is the tropical garden – it feels like being transported to another part of the world.”
During the 2023/24 financial year, Hamilton Gardens experienced a record-breaking influx of 537,584 visitors, surpassing previous peaks and reaffirming its status as a premier tourist destination. Central to its allure are the Enclosed Gardens, featuring 18 thematic gardens that explore diverse historical and cultural narratives of garden design.
Beyond its conceptual gardens, Hamilton Gardens offers a wealth of attractions including picturesque rhododendron walks, the tranquil Turtle Lake with its cascading waterfall, idyllic rose-filled picnicking spots, and a vibrant destination playground, catering to visitors of all ages and interests.
