Wrexham Council has proudly unveiled a colossal Wrexham AFC badge, measuring an impressive 5.75 meters in diameter. Positioned prominently in the city centre, this botanical masterpiece, comprising plants such as Ajuga Chocolate Chip, Sempervivum Green, and Sedum Spurium ‘Dragons Blood,’ symbolizes Wrexham’s commitment to the Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions. The installation is also endorsed by the city’s bid for the 2029 City of Culture.

“We are thrilled to integrate this striking display into our urban landscape,” expressed Wrexham Council. “Following our gold win at Wales in Bloom 2023, this initiative underscores our readiness for the upcoming 2024 judging, where we will represent Wales against competitors including London and Dundee.”

This year’s judging route will encompass key venues and green spaces such as Wrexham Crematorium, Wrexham Recycling Centre, Erlas Walled Garden, Rhosnesni High School, and various sites within Wrexham City Centre. Residents and local groups along the route are encouraged to contribute, building on last year’s successes with activities ranging from litter picks to gardening competitions and enhancing green spaces with vibrant floral displays.

The initiative aims to enhance Wrexham’s aesthetics and sustainability by tackling issues like graffiti and promoting eco-friendly practices in planting and floral arrangements.

“For those interested in supporting the Britain in Bloom and Wales in Bloom campaigns or sponsoring local initiatives, please reach out to Nicola Ellis,” urged Wrexham Council spokesperson, providing contact details for further involvement.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, conveyed his gratitude to Wrexham AFC for their collaboration. “The badge is a source of immense pride for our community, enhancing our city centre and becoming a must-visit spot for fans, both local and global,” he remarked. “Following our success last year, we are eager to build on our achievements with exciting projects like this, alongside our vibrant city centre displays and wildflower roundabouts.”

Cllr Terry Evans, Lead Member for Environment, emphasized the city’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its green spaces. “Our team is dedicated to creating environments that are enjoyable for all residents and visitors alike,” he affirmed, encouraging widespread community engagement in these efforts.

With the installation of the Wrexham AFC badge symbolizing unity and civic pride, Wrexham looks forward to further beautifying its surroundings and welcoming visitors with its blooming displays and sustainable initiatives.
