Authorities have confirmed the presence of a cannabis plant in a flower bed located in Ryde town centre on the Isle of Wight.
The discovery came to light when a vigilant member of the public alerted the County Press after observing the plant flourishing near the Co-operative on Anglesea Street.
Local experts, including Chris Kidd from Ventnor Botanic Garden and Colin Pope from the IW Natural History and Archaeological Society, have verified the plant’s identity as cannabis.
The responsibility for planting in the flower beds lies with the charity Haylands Farm, under the management of Ryde Town Council.
According to sources at the County Press, cannabis plants can germinate when seeds are dispersed and deposited by birds.
The County Press received an anonymous communication signed by “Disgruntled, of Binstead,” bringing attention to this issue.
Inquiries have been made to Ryde Town Council and Haylands Farm for their official statements on the matter.
