Reid’s Orchard is gearing up for its second annual “Sunset Flower Market Day,” scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. this Sunday at their location on Kentucky Highway 144.
Valerie Reid Reel, the event coordinator, highlighted that attendees will have the opportunity to personally harvest fresh flowers from Katie’s U-Pick Flower garden. This garden boasts nearly a dozen varieties, including zinnias, salvia, ageratum, celosia, snapdragons, sunflowers, and cosmos.
Food enthusiasts can look forward to offerings from Basil’s Food Truck and Jay’s Good Grub, while the musical ambiance will be provided by Mitchell Douglas.
Moreover, the event will feature 20 vendors showcasing a diverse array of crafts, clothing, jewelry, hats, and more.
Reflecting on the success of last year’s inaugural Sunset Flower Market Day, Reel emphasized the positive reception of this year’s market days, underscoring their appeal as a leisurely Sunday evening activity.
“For many, Sunday evenings can be quiet,” Reel noted. “This event offers a chance to enjoy music, dining, and flower picking.”
Activities for children include horse and pony rides and a petting zoo.
The orchard, long a staple in Daviess County, hosted the popular Apple Festival for 37 years before concluding it in 2022 due to its size. According to Billy and Kathy Reid, Reel’s parents, transitioning to smaller-scale market days has proven more manageable.
Looking ahead, Reid’s Orchard has scheduled upcoming events such as Peach Bliss on August 11, the Orchard Music Fest on September 28, and the Christmas Open House & Market Day on December 14-15, aligning each event with the seasons of specific fruits and vegetables.
Founded in 1873 by Allan Reid, an 18-year-old Scottish immigrant, Reid’s Orchard remains a family-owned business, now spanning several generations—a testament to its enduring legacy as one of Kentucky’s oldest continuously operated family businesses.
