“Our strategy involves establishing 31 collection points across various flower production zones in Yunnan. Farmers receive orders through our Huawu fresh-cut flower wholesale app, delivering freshly picked blooms to designated collection sites,” Zhang explained.

Each evening between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., flowers from these sites are swiftly transported to the sorting hub at Kunming’s Dounan Flower Market for rigorous quality checks. By early morning, these flowers are primed for shipment, ensuring a streamlined cycle from harvest to delivery completed within nine hours.

Founded in 2019 by Zhang and two partners, Yunnan Huawu Technology Co., Ltd. introduced the Huawu fresh-cut flower trading platform, revolutionizing the industry.

Zhang highlighted the inefficiencies of traditional flower trade, noting that multiple intermediaries inflate costs and increase losses by 20 percent at each stage. The company’s integrated approach consolidates five or six processes into one, guaranteeing freshness and minimizing unsold inventory for farmers.

Through the platform, farmers enjoy a 20 percent income boost compared to offline channels and halve their losses. More than 10,000 flower producers have joined, alongside over 300,000 flower shops, event planners, supermarkets, and businesses purchasing wholesale flowers via the app.

Daily transactions on the platform exceed 2 million fresh-cut flowers, contributing to a substantial total transaction value nearing 800 million yuan in 2023.

Despite initial challenges such as inadequate facilities, Zhang boldly ventured into livestreaming. Using makeshift backdrops like shipping boxes, the company scouted promising hosts through streaming broadcasts. This unconventional approach attracted local government support, leading to the provision of improved office space, enabling the company’s rapid expansion and fostering employment opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

The company actively nurtures flower art influencers, with its livestreaming anchors amassing over 3 million followers across various platforms and accumulating more than 600 million views.

Furthermore, Yunnan Huawu Technology Co., Ltd. has established a training school catering to flower art enthusiasts and aspiring entrepreneurs. Monthly sessions accommodate more than 100 floral artists, with over 8,000 students currently enrolled online. This initiative has facilitated the entry of over 300 individuals from across China into the floral art industry.
