Homecamp Flower Farm, a new U-Pick flower destination, officially opened its doors to the community with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 22. The event, hosted at the farm’s location at 16658 Three Oaks Road, was attended by members of the Harbor Country Chamber of Commerce and marked the culmination of owner Bek Nelson’s dream of sharing her passion for flowers.
Nelson, who grew up in England, was inspired by the lavender fields of Provence and the sunflower fields of her homeland. These vivid memories stayed with her long after she moved to Michigan 20 years ago. “I literally found myself dreaming of flowers and had this vision of creating something magical where I could share my love of flowers with others,” she shared.
Two years ago, Nelson began her quest to find the perfect place to bring her vision to life. “My kids were pretty self-sufficient at this point, and it was the right time to begin this new adventure,” she explained. After an extensive search across Southwest Michigan, she discovered a property featuring a run-down barn and house, along with several acres of fertile farmland. To Nelson, it felt like the ideal location to start her flower farm.
In 2023, Nelson embarked on her project by planting seeds and experimenting to find out what would thrive in the area. Although she occasionally put up an “open” sign during this period, she waited for the farm to be fully prepared before officially launching it to the public. This summer, after planting over 40,000 seeds and tubers, Homecamp now features over a million blooms.
Despite not being officially open until the recent ribbon-cutting, the farm attracted visitors throughout the summer who stopped by to pick flowers or simply admire the vibrant landscape. Nelson also hosted a flower camp in early August, where children participated in a weeklong program learning about flowers, gardening, and pollination.
At Homecamp Flower Farm, visitors can pick their own bouquets for $15 per bucket of 30 stems. For those who prefer the convenience of having their flowers pre-picked, the cost is $25. “We’re also going to offer flower subscriptions where we will pick for customers weekly, and they can just come by and pick them up,” Nelson said.
The farm has already received positive feedback from visitors. Jolanta Mickus, a recent customer, praised the farm as a “hidden gem” and encouraged others to visit. “If you are in the area, just go and feel the beauty of the field flowers. Flowers are beautiful, the owner is very nice, and the vibe there is so relaxing. It is a place where you can just be,” Mickus commented.
In addition to the U-pick and We-pick services, Homecamp Flower Farm is available for rentals, including photo shoots, events, private picnics, and dinners. Nelson is also preparing to offer “flower-farm stays” at the newly renovated two-bedroom home on the property.
On September 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST, Homecamp will host “Yoga in the Flower Fields,” a special event open to the public. For $50, participants can enjoy a yoga session surrounded by flowers, a floral arrangement for their yoga mat, and a bucket of fresh blooms to take home. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, water bottle, an open heart, and a container for their flowers.
Homecamp Flower Farm is a testament to Nelson’s dedication and passion for flowers, offering a unique and vibrant addition to the Three Oaks community.
