In a joyful morning gathering at Blossom Park, community members and leaders came together to celebrate the culmination of the “Bloom” Public Art Series, a spectacular public art initiative that has brought vibrant flower sculptures to San Antonio’s parks.
Renowned local artist Leticia Huerta is the creative force behind this unique project, crafting intricate flower sculptures utilizing bicycle parts and metal. Among the remarkable sculptures featured are the Texas Thistle, Firewheel, and Prairie Celestial Flowers, each a testament to the artist’s skill and creativity.
What makes these sculptures particularly special is that they were chosen by the community itself through surveys. Leticia Huerta was tasked with the challenge of turning the community’s selections into stunning artistic representations, collaborating closely with Wanderlust Ironworks to bring these visions to life.
Krystal Jones, Executive Director of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts and Culture, praised the endeavor, saying, “She had the challenge of taking those flowers chosen by the community and working with Wanderlust Ironworks to make sure the flowers represented what was selected by those community members.”
These beautifully crafted flower sculptures now join the existing lineup of 20 other captivating sculptures, all part of the “Bloom” Public Art Series spread throughout the parks of San Antonio. This project not only showcases the remarkable talent of local artists but also creates a sense of connection and pride within the community as they collectively contribute to the city’s cultural landscape.
