GAINESVILLE, FL – The annual Orchid Show at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens once again captivated thousands of visitors with its stunning array of orchids and vibrant blooms. This two-day spectacle, taking place from October 21 to October 22, was a testament to the tireless efforts of the Orchid Society in collaboration with the dedicated Kanapaha Botanical Gardens team.
The event proved to be a horticultural extravaganza as it featured not only orchids but an array of captivating flowers. A bustling marketplace saw numerous vendors setting up shop, offering not only orchids but a diverse selection of plants and even candles for the gardening enthusiasts in attendance.
Adding to the prestige of the occasion, judges from the esteemed American Orchid Society were present to evaluate the plants and displays gathered from various corners of Florida. In a triumphant victory for Gainesville, their exhibit secured the coveted first place position this year. However, they were not alone in displaying their floral prowess, as exhibits from Jacksonville and Volusia County dazzled visitors with their stunning arrangements.
The Orchid Show, by all accounts, was a resounding success, drawing in a substantial crowd estimated at around six to seven thousand attendees. Chairwoman of the Orchid Show, Joan MacLeod, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “It’s a lot of fun. We raffle away orchids, and we have some educational programs. Hopefully, anyone who enjoys plants would want to come by and see us.”
For those who missed the weekend’s enchanting floral showcase, the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens now boasts a new pavilion for visitors to explore, ensuring that the magic of this botanical wonderland is available year-round.
