Letchumi Kasinathan, a dedicated vendor with 23 years of experience, lamented the stark transformation in the once-vibrant flower market. In the past, these stalls enjoyed robust business, but today’s reality paints a grim picture.

Kasinathan revealed that sales have plummeted to the extent that operators find it challenging to recoup their initial flower procurement costs. The recent economic climate, marked by sluggish growth and escalating prices, has forced many customers to reevaluate their floral purchases.

The stall operators had been making a gradual recovery over the past two years after grappling with near obliteration during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the current economic downturn, coupled with soaring prices, has effectively elevated flowers to a luxury item. Consequently, a majority of customers have opted to curtail their spending on floral arrangements.

This confluence of factors presents an uncertain future for the flower vendors at Pasar Besar Seremban, who now grapple with the challenging task of adapting to changing consumer preferences and economic conditions. The once-bustling market has been cast into uncertainty as operators ponder who will be the next to purchase their beautiful blooms.
