Midway’s Beloved Beverly’s Flowers and Gifts Reopens Under Former Intern’s Ownership

by Jennifer

Midway, NC – After three decades of serving the community, Beverly’s Flowers and Gifts closed its doors last year. Beverly Williams, the owner, had put the shop up for sale, and an unexpected turn of events has brought it back to life with Wendy Thomas, Beverly’s former intern from the late 1990s, stepping into the role of the new owner.

Wendy Thomas fondly recalls her time as an intern at the shop, where she began with tasks like cleaning buckets. Today, the roles have reversed, and Wendy has taken the reins as the owner.

“I had no idea Beverly was selling. Ran across it on Facebook one day in the community page and thought, I’m just gonna talk to her, see what it’s about, and then here we landed,” Thomas said, recounting her journey from intern to owner.

Beverly’s decision to sell the shop last year came after enduring challenging personal losses. “I just kind of had to walk away. I lost my husband and my son. So I walked away, closed the door, and Wendy got in touch with me later, and it was just meant to be,” Thomas explained.

Wendy’s vision as the new owner is clear: “My goal is truly to serve, I want to be able to serve others, and this is my opportunity to be able to carry on that– I say legacy,” she shared.

While Wendy has brought her own touch to the shop, the legacy of Beverly’s Flowers and Gifts is something she aims to preserve with Beverly working alongside her. Wendy’s changes have given the shop a fresh look while maintaining its core essence.

“It’s been a change, but Wendy’s come in here and done a total facelift to the shop. So it’s not my shop any longer. That’s the beauty of it. And she still wants to carry on what we work to build for 30 years, which I’m very proud of that. But she’s made it her own,” Thomas said.

Wendy is determined to honor Beverly’s legacy by expanding the customer base and continuing to provide flowers and arrangements for various occasions, including weddings and funerals. Additionally, Wendy plans to showcase local businesses and their products in the shop.

Beverly’s Flowers and Gifts retains its original location at 11130 Old U.S. Highway, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. While the website is still in development, orders can be placed by calling 336-764-1091.

The grand reopening is scheduled for Saturday, November 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and shoppers can enjoy a 50% discount on all Christmas items as they celebrate the revival of this cherished community institution.
