The Sou’wester Garden Club invites flower enthusiasts to a captivating presentation on Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging. The guest speaker, Jeffrey Robinson, will share his insights and expertise on this centuries-old tradition at the Bob Chisholm Community Center on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Ikebana, which translates to “living flowers” or “giving life to flowers,” is a discipline that embraces the harmony of nature and aesthetics. Robinson’s fascination with Ikebana was ignited when he encountered mesmerizing displays at the Missouri Botanical Gardens’ Japanese Festival. His dedication to this art form spans over seven years, during which he immersed himself in the intricacies of Ikebana by joining the Ikenobo School of Floral Arts in Kyoto, Japan. Additionally, he has had the honor of presenting his knowledge at the renowned Portland Japanese Gardens.
This presentation offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of Ikebana and its fusion of art and nature. The event is free and open to all who wish to explore the beauty and culture of Japanese flower arranging.
