CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea — U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) observed Veterans Day by paying homage to those who served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 through floral displays and spoken tributes.
During the ceremony held at an on-base Army memorial on Saturday, Army Maj. Gen. David Lesperance, the director of operations for USFK, U.N. Command, and Combined Forces Command, reflected on the contributions of U.S., Korean, and U.N. troops. He emphasized that their collective efforts played a pivotal role in establishing the present-day South Korea as a free and democratic nation.
Lesperance stated, “We honor the brave men and women that stepped forward to defend our nation today. We also honor Korean and United Nations member states veterans for their service. Veterans’ collective actions are a debt we cannot repay. We must renew our commitment to remember and honor all our veterans.”
The ceremony concluded with members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Humphrey High School JROTC, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts laying floral baskets at the memorial. The red, white, and blue bouquets symbolized purity, devotion, and the preservation of peace.
