Swati Kendre, a farmer from Balawadi village in Bhor taluka of Pune, has redefined traditional farming by embracing modern methods, particularly in the cultivation of Gerbera flowers. Initially engaged in conventional farming, Swati transitioned to modern techniques, establishing a playhouse on her 30 Guntha (approximately over 30,000 square feet) land. Reports indicate that she has achieved considerable financial success, earning lakhs by selling Gerbera flowers in the market.
Supported by her husband, Amit Dnyaneshwar, who works at the Pune District Central Cooperative Bank, the couple ventured into modern farming practices. They constructed polyhouses for controlled cultivation, implemented proper weed control, water management, and utilized chemical fertilizers, manure, pesticides, and organic bacterial fertilizers. The decision to cultivate Gerbera flowers proved lucrative, given their consistent demand in the market.
Before planting 18 thousand Gerbera plants, the couple mixed one-and-a-half tonnes of paddy husk and 25 trolleys of cow dung in the field. Following ploughing the field multiple times, they prepared beds and planted 18 thousand saplings of rice and shine Gerbera, showcasing the meticulous planning and dedication that contributed to their success.
