Red carnations, being the most abundant item, are a popular choice for Valentine’s Day, and Turkey has exported 65 to 70 million branches of carnations, generating nearly $7 million in revenue for this occasion. Shipments have been made to about 30 countries in Europe, with the export process continuing until February 7, including air shipments.

Ismail Yilmaz, the president of the Middle Anatolia Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters’ Association, highlighted the success of the ornamental sector despite a slight decrease in flower exports from $137 million in 2022 to $135 million in 2023. Considering the economic challenges, the industry’s resilience is viewed as a positive outcome.

Looking ahead to 2024, Yilmaz expressed optimism, noting the global economic recovery and the approaching Valentine’s Day. Trucks transporting flowers from Turkey to Europe take approximately six days, and the final days of Valentine’s Day shipments are underway.
