The eagerly awaited revival of the hanging nasturtiums harkens back to a tradition spanning over a century.

Donna Hardwick, the museum’s Marketing and Communications Director, remarked, “This tradition has been going on since the early 1900s … these orange beauties have found a home coming from the balcony of the museum.”

Initiated by Isabella Stewart Gardner herself to commemorate her birthday, the tradition continues to thrive. The museum cultivates the flowers in an off-site greenhouse, ensuring their splendor adorns the museum through mid-April.
