In a celebratory rendezvous, members of the esteemed Shropshire Horticultural Society, responsible for orchestrating the illustrious Shrewsbury Flower Show, were treated to an exclusive tour of one of the region’s foremost plant enterprises.
Approximately 50 distinguished guests, among them renowned gardener Camilla Bassett-Smith, graced the occasion, hosted at Love Plants. Situated within Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters in Shrewsbury, Love Plants stands as a specialist plant center of distinction.
Tom Pountney, the adept general manager of Love Plants, captivated the audience with insights into the significant revitalization efforts undertaken at the plant center since assuming his role late last year. Furthermore, he curated a small exhibition and fielded inquiries regarding his triumphant show garden, masterfully crafted for Salop Leisure and Love Plants during the previous iteration of the Shrewsbury Flower Show.
Mark Bebb, the managing director of Salop Leisure, extended a warm welcome to esteemed society members, including chairperson Leanne Garvey, Margaret Thrower, and Tony Bywater, who also holds the position of chairman at Salop Leisure.
Camilla, the esteemed television horticulturist known for her appearances alongside Alan Titchmarsh on ITV’s Love Your Weekend 2020, confirmed her attendance at this year’s Shrewsbury Flower Show scheduled for August 9 and 10.
Expressing gratitude, Mrs. Garvey conveyed appreciation to Love Plants and Salop Leisure, stalwart supporters of the flower show in various capacities such as sponsors, traders, and exhibitors. She remarked, “It was an extraordinary affair, extended to our flower show stewards as a token of gratitude for their unwavering volunteer efforts.” She further added, “The lush greenery of the garden center, meticulously arranged and brimming with vibrant hues, was a sight to behold.”
Reflecting on the event, Mr. Pountney exclaimed, “It was truly a splendid occasion, and we were elated by the glowing commendations Love Plants received from our esteemed guests, reveling amidst the splendor of quality foliage.” He elaborated on the recent transformations at the plant center, emphasizing a more spacious and streamlined layout aimed at enhancing visitor experience.
Renowned as a pinnacle of horticultural excellence in the UK, the Shrewsbury Flower Show annually draws throngs of visitors to The Quarry, alongside exhibitors from across the nation.
