WATERTOWN, New York — The iconic Flower Monument in downtown Watertown has gained a new allure with the addition of 3,500 vibrant tulips, transforming the historic landmark into a picturesque scene.
Originally erected 122 years ago in honor of New York Governor Rossell P. Flower, the monument has now become a focal point adorned by a colorful array of tulips, courtesy of Maple Ridge Organics, a landscaping company based in Otisco, New York. These tulips, planted last November as part of the city’s downtown streetscape project, have blossomed into a breathtaking sight, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the monument and its surroundings.
Geoffrey Urda, City Planner, expressed that the strategic placement of the tulips serves a dual purpose: to beautify the monument and to create a more welcoming ambiance for pedestrians. The streetscape project, which facilitated improved access to the monument, now invites visitors to admire its splendor amidst the vibrant tulip blooms.
The Flower Monument, steeped in history and now adorned with nature’s vibrant hues, stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing elements of natural beauty.
